Kentucky SAR Honors our Nation
Members of Kentucky SAR were busy throughout the state as we honored the 249th anniversary of our nation’s independence.
Louisville, KY – Forty-eight immigrants became U.S. citizens at Locust Grove, and Kentucky SAR members from the Louisville Thruston and Governor Isaac Shelby chapters were there to celebrate this momentous event with each one of them. In addition, there was also a flag retirement ceremony at Locust Grove.
Williamsburg, KY – The Captain Charles Gatliff chapter conducted a celebration at Patriot Park on the campus of the University of the Cumberlands. The event, titled “Let Freedom Ring,” included historic readings, musical performances, a ceremonial bell-ringing service to honor the original thirteen colonies.
Cadiz, KY – The Colonel Stephen Trigg chapter held a celebration at West Cadiz Park. This celebration provided a view into the past and gave attendees insight into the risks taken on by those fighting for independence, and how very important this struggle was in our history.
Lexington, KY – The Lafayette Chapter organized a large group of SAR and DAR members to walk in the Lexington Independence Day Parade. This parade celebrated both the 249th anniversary of our nation’s independence, but also the 250th anniversary of the city of Lexington, founded in 1775. Additionally, A small contingent of the SAR Color Guard carried the colors for the Lexington Legends ballgame scheduled the evening of July 4th.
