Kentucky Stands Guard

Several members of the Kentucky SAR stood vigil at George and Martha Washington’s Tomb at Mount Vernon.  Sentinel groups stood guard for 15-minute intervals and performed a change of the guard between each guard, giving onlookers a demonstration of 18th-century military history.

Kentucky Attends the 135th Annual SAR Congress in Connecticut

Several members of Kentucky SAR were able to attend this year’s Annual Conference.  This was a big year for our state!

Kentucky SAR Honors our Nation

Members of Kentucky SAR were busy throughout the state as we honored the 249th anniversary of our nation’s independence.

 

Louisville, KY – Forty-eight immigrants became U.S. citizens at Locust Grove, and Kentucky SAR members from the Louisville Thruston and Governor Isaac Shelby chapters were there to celebrate this momentous event with each one of them.  In addition, there was also a flag retirement ceremony at Locust Grove.

Kentucky SAR Honors Flag Day

Flag Day was honored by SAR Chapters throughout the state.  

In Maysville, members of the George Mason Chapter collaborated with local DAR and CAR chapters to hold their Flag Day Picnic, and present a program on clothing and other items used during the Revolutionary War.  This program was held at the Maysville-Mason County Recreation Park.

In Louisville, the Louisville-Thruston Chapter collaborated with the Bowman Field Civil Air Patrol to perform a Flag Retirement Ceremony at Resthaven Cemetery.

Kentucky SAR at Boonesborough's 250th Anniversary

The KY SAR Color Guard was delighted to participate in the Fort Boonesborough State Park 250th Anniversary celebration of Boonesborough's founding yesterday, presenting the Colors at the event's commencement. We were also invited to perform a Flintlock Salute and Mourn on Arms in recognition of those who made the ultimate sacrifice while establishing this significant settlement in western Virginia in 1775.
